HORNETS GEAR UP FOR NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD PRELIMINARY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dover, Del. (May 22, 2013) --- Delaware State University's Ryan Carter (sr.; New Castle, Del.), the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion in the outdoor 200 meter & 400 meter dash, will head the list of six Hornets slated to compete in the NCAA Division I East Region Preliminary Championships in Greensboro, N.C., this week. The competition gets underway on Thursday at North Carolina A&T State University.

Carter will compete for East Region outdoor championships in the 200 & 400, as well as the 4x400-meter relay. He has a top 200-meter time of 20.54 seconds and his best 400 time is 46.20 seconds this outdoor season.

Delaware State's Stephen Bowe (jr.; Wilmington, Del.) will also compete in the East Region 400-meter dash competition as a result of his top time of 47.30 seconds this season. Bowe is also a member of the Hornets' 1600-meter relay team.   

DSU's Kevaughn Laviea (sr.; Dover, Del.) has qualified for the NCAA East Region championship in the 400-meter hurdles and is a member of the relay team. His top time in the hurdles is 52.65 seconds this outdoor season.   

Tyquan Brown (sr.; Neptune, N.J.) will join Carter, Bowe and Laviea on the Hornets' 1600-meter relay team, which has a top time of three-minutes-07.39-seconds this season.

The Hornets were second in the IC4A final, third in the MEAC and qualified for the Penn Relays championship in the 1600-meter relay this year.  

Alpha Mansaray (so.; Dover, Del.) is the Hornets' relay team alternate.

Delaware State's Ketsia Dornevil (jr.; Phila., Pa.) has qualified for the NCAA East Region Women's 800-meter championship.  Dornevil was fourth in the MEAC championships and has a top time of 2:08.29 in the 800 this season.

Champions and other regional qualifiers will compete in the NCAA Division I National Championships on June 5-6 in Eugene, Ore.
