Marlee Starliper Runs Nation-Leading 16:50 To Win At Carlisle

Marlee Starliper now has the nation's fastest 5K.

The Northern sophomore clocked a 16:50 in some great running conditions at the Carlisle Invitational. Starliper took the race out hard from the gun and never looked back in a loaded Challenge Race that saw six other girls run under 18 minutes.

Starliper ran 17:58 at the Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational a few weeks ago for the win and has followed that up with another terrific performance.

According to our records, that is the fastest time run by a Pennsylvania high schooler since 1981 when Lois Brommer of Mechanicsburg Area took second at the Kinney Cross Country Championships (now known as the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships) in a time of 16:43.2. Lynne Strauss of State College also ran 16:59 in that race.
