Claudia Lane Breaks Mt. SAC Invitational Course Record With 15:49

The signs pointed toward Claudia Lane having a remarkable outing at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday.

And the Malibu (CA) High junior phenom certainly delivered in the Division 1/Division 2 Individual Sweepstakes race, hammering a course record and new U.S. No. 1 time of 15:49.00 on a hilly 3-mile Mt. San Antonio College course, breaking Simi Valley graduate Sarah Baxter's old record of 16:00.00.

Lane, the defending Foot Locker Nationals champion, was nearly a minute ahead of the field, kicking past King's Lauren Peurifoy (16:42.00) and Redwood's Gillian Wagner (17:13.00).

Lane entered with the sixth-fastest time on the course overall, and though construction toward the finish slightly changed the complexion of the course, Lane's performance will certainly stand in time as one of the all-time best at Mt. SAC -- it also might rank, possibly, as one of the best efforts this season nationally.

Afterward, Lane discussed her intentions this postseason and intimated she will once again compete at Foot Locker -- likely skipping the opportunity to compete at NXN for the first time.

Peurifoy, an NXN finisher last year, was just 10 seconds off Lane's performance from 2016.
