LANDOVER, Md. - Sophomore Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.)
scored the first points of the weekend for the Delaware State University women's
track and field team Friday on day two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
Indoor Track and Field Championships at Prince George's Sports and Learning
Complex.
Dornevil
finished the 800m with a time of 2:13.57, good for fourth place overall. This time marks Dornevil's best of the season
with her previous best of 2:14.76 coming on January 14 at the Saturday Night at
the Armory I meet, held in New York, N.Y.
Also
finishing in the women's 800m was junior Dashera
Richardson (Philadelphia, Pa.) with her ninth place time of 2:17.57.
Senior
Tracey Fan Fan (South Orange, N.J.)
qualified for day three action in the 60m hurdles with her sixth place time of
8.90. Fan Fan has run a season-best time
of 8.85 twice this year, at the Albany Great Dane Classic in New York, N.Y. and
at the Princeton New Year Invitational.
Rounding
out the track events for the DSU women was the distance medley relay, finishing
the day in eighth place with a time of 12:49.10. Members of the relay included Dornevil,
Richardson, senior Ayanna Kelly
(Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Ashley
Robinson (Dover, Del.).
Senior
Kristen Johnson (Bloomfield, Del.) competed
in the lone field event Friday for the Lady Hornets. Johnson finished ninth overall in the high
jump with a height of 1.57m.
On
the men's side, the Hornets had three student-athletes run in the 400m and were
led by senior Tariq Devore's 10th
place time of 49.79. Junior Tyquan Brown (Neptune, N.J.) finished
13th with a time of 50.26 while junior Ryan Carter (Wilmington, Del.) was 22nd in a time of
53.60.
In
men's field events, sophomore Marko Kano
(Cottbus, Germany) recorded a height of 1.86m in the high jump, good for 11th
place.
Heading
into the final day of competition, the defending MEAC women's champion Hampton
Lady Pirates and reigning men's champion Norfolk State Spartans lead all
competitors.
On
the women's side, Hampton totaled 68.50 points during the second day of
competition to take the lead with 84.50 points.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore moved into second place with 46
points while Florida A&M is third with 35 points.
The
Delaware State women currently sit at 10th place with six points.
On
the men's side, Norfolk State scored 31.50 points for a total of 67.50 points
during today's competition to extend their lead. The UMES Hawks are second with 42.50 points
and the South Carolina State Bulldogs rounded out the top three with 27 points.
The
Hornet men have not recorded any points through seven events scored.
Competition
at the 2012 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude on Saturday
beginning at 9 a.m. with the men's and women's shot put, pole vault and triple
jump. Running events begin at 1 p.m.
with the men's and women's mile run.
Rounding out the day's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay
race at 3:40 p.m.
