Girls DIAA XC State Championships Recap

The DIAA XC State Championships took place at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware on Saturday, November 9th. The temperatures were in the mid to lower 40s and dropped significantly as the sun began to set. Runners put in the work and embraced the chill to display exciting performances.

Division I Girls

Demonstrating their dominance against the Division 1 field for the 7th year in a row, Padua's girls team earned another 1st place trophy to add to their collection. Judy McLaughlin led the race, but her teammates, Mary Katherine Dorsey, Geneva Laur,  Elena Bocchetti worked together to sweep the 10th through 12th spots. Mackenzie Speed was the 5th runner helping score 55 points to conquer Charter's score of 102.

McLaughlin had a remarkable final sprint in the last stretch of the race, seizing the title over runner-up Maya Bordrick from Charter. McLaughlin crossed the line with a time of 19:04.40, Bordrick just behind with a 19:10.10. Keely Arndt from Caesar Rodney and Alyssa Brinsky, Appoquinimink took the 2nd and 3rd place spots in the race with times of 19:20.70 and 19:27.90 respectively.

 

Division II Girls

Ursuline Academy successfully defended their Division II title, winning only by a margin over of St Marks, 50 to 52. Anna Pryor (5th), Alaina McGonigle (8th), Clare Kornacki (10th), Emily Rzucidlo (12th) and Ava Lindia (15th) did their part to pull off the win.  

On the individual side, the underclassmen overwhelmed the top spots. Fierce freshman, Lydia Colasante, Tatnall dashed to the finish, achieving the fastest time of the day for both girl's division with a PR time of 18:48.90. Sophomore, Tiffany Herrera from St Marks was the runner up coming in at 18:53.30. With a 16 second PR, freshman Natalie Donaldson of St Marks placed 3rd (19:00.80).  Other noteworthy individual performances came from Pryor (Ursuline) and sophomore Maisie Donohue (Brandywine) who stuck closely together through the 2 mile marker with the top three runners. Donohue placed 4th with a time of 19.07.10 and Pryor placed 5th (19:13.00).
