HORNETS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT MEAC RELAY TITLE

Greensboro, N.C. (May 7, 2011) --- Delaware State University has captured its third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship in the men's outdoor 1600-meter relay. The Hornet team of Tyquan Brown, Ryan Carter, Tariq Devore and Leslie Murray topped the field with a time of 3:08.42 at the conference championship meet at North Carolina A&T University today. Delaware State also won the last three MEAC indoor and outdoor 1600-meter relay championships.

The Hornets were seventh in the final team standings with 47 points. Norfolk State claimed its sixth straight MEAC men's championship with 162 points.

Murray also captured his second straight MEAC title in the 400-meter hurdles. He earned the maximum 10 points for the Hornets with a winning time of 50.29 seconds in the championship race. Murray also claimed the 400-meter hurdle championship as a freshman in 2009. Delaware State's Kevaughn Laviea was fifth (53.37) and Alan Laws eighth (54.29) in the 400 hurdle final.

Carter also collected eight points for DSU with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (20.88 sec.) and a seventh place performance in the 400-meter dash (49.19).     

Delaware State was fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.38 seconds.
