ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In the first meet
of the indoor season, seniors Calisa
Emerson (Wilmington, Del.) and Krystina
Muhammad (Newark, Del.) each finished first in their respective events as
the Delaware State women's track and field team finished tied for third place
with 25 points at the Navy Lid-Lifter Invitational, held at Wesley Brown
Fieldhouse Thursday evening.
Emerson
competed in two individual events, finishing first in the 200-meter dash
(25.95) for five points and second in the 60-meter dash (7.97) for three
points. She also led the DSU 'A' team to
a first place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:55.98. Also running for the 'A' squad was senior Ayanna Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.), sophomore Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
junior Dashera Richardson
(Philadelphia, Pa.).
Muhammad
finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.55m for five points and
second in the long jump with a distance of 5.30m, good for three points.
Senior
Tracey Fan Fan (Maplewood, N.J.)
also recorded points for the Hornets in the 200-meter dash with a fourth place
time of 26.58. Although she didn't earn
points, Fan Fan finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.14. Additionally, she was a member of the 'B'
squad that placed sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:10.57.
Coming
off of a strong cross country season, Dornevil and Richardson tallied points
for DSU in the 800-meter run with respective third (2:20.28) and fourth place
(2:20.39) finishes.
Host
Navy dominated the meet and finished first with 71.50 total points. Towson followed in second with 33
points. Morgan State tied DSU with 25
points while Mount St. Mary's finished fifth with 10.50 points. Rounding out the meet was American with three
points.
The
Hornet women next compete in the Ursinus Bow-Tie Track Classic on Saturday.
