PRINCETON,
N.J. - In the third meet of the indoor season, Delaware State sophomore
Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.)
took gold individually in the 600-meter run and as a part of the 4x400-meter
relay at the Princeton New Year's Invitational Saturday.
Dornevil finished first in the 600m with a time of 1:34.73. Also running in the 600m were junior Dashera Richardson (Philadelphia, Pa.)
and freshman Ashley Robinson (Dover,
Del.). Richardson placed fifth
with in 1:37.82 while Robinson was 25th in 1:45.30. This was their first time competing in
the 600m this season.
Richardson and Dornevil were the anchors of the 4x400 relay squad
that ran a time of 3:51.94, good for first place. Running the first two legs of the relay were junior Calisa Emerson (Wilmington, Del.) and senior
Tracey Fan Fan (Maplewood, N.J.).
Fan Fan, competing in the 60-meter hurdles, finished first in the
preliminaries with a time of 8.98 to qualify for the finals, where she ran a season-best
8.85, good for second place overall.
In the field events, sophomore Maria Gwengi placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.26m,
her best this season.
Also recording season-bests was junior Krystina Muhammad (Newark, Del.) who collected a judge's mark of 5.55m,
good for sixth place in the long jump.
Muhammad also finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 11.73m.
There was no team scoring for the meet.
The Hornets now have off for the winter holiday and do not return
to action until Saturday, Jan. 14 when they compete in the Collegiate Series,
held at the NYC Armory in Manhattan, N.Y.
