LANDOVER, Md. - The Delaware State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
The Hornet men finished third overall in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.16. Members of the squad are juniors Ryan Carter (Wilmington, Del.), Kevaughn Laviea (Dover, Del.), and Tyquan Brown (Neptune, N.J.) and senior Tariq Devore (New York, N.Y.). The quartet previously recorded a season-best time of 3:13.96 at the Albany Great Dane Classic on Jan. 20 in New York, N.Y.
Carter also competed in the 200m finals and recorded a time of 22.05, good for fifth place overall.
The women's 4x400m finished ninth in their race with a time of 3:52.48. Members of the relay are seniors Tracey Fan Fan (South Orange, N.J.) and Ayanna Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.), junior Dashera Richardson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.).
In the women's 60m hurdles final, Fan Fan finished fourth overall with a time of 8.69. Her previous season-best time of 8.85 came twice, at the Great Dane Classic and also at the Princeton New Year's Invitational.
The DSU women finished the weekend in 12th place with a total of 12 points while the men finished 13th with 10 points.
Hampton University posted 161.50 points to win their 10th overall women's MEAC indoor title. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished in second with 121 points, followed by North Carolina A&T in third with 67 points.
Lady Pirate Head Coach Maurice Pierce was named the Women's Outstanding Coach.
Shamire Rothmiller of South Carolina State and Claudia Calder of Hampton recorded 18 points apiece to earn Co-Outstanding Field Performer honors while UMES' Cynthia Anais totaled 32.50 points to be named the Outstanding Runner.
On the men's side, Norfolk State captured their seventh consecutive and ninth overall MEAC indoor crown with a total of 161.50 points. UMES was second with 93.50 points and North Carolina A&T was third with 69 points.
Spartan Head Coach Kenneth Giles was named the Outstanding Coach for the seventh straight year.
UMES's Owen Cain tallied 19 points to be named the Outstanding Field Performer while Norfolk State's Josef Tessema recorded 32.50 points to earn the Outstanding Runner Performer for the second straight year.
The Hornet men and women next travel to New York, N.Y. for the Fast Track Invitational on Feb. 25.
