MUHAMMAD TAKES TWO GOLDS AT EAGLE TWILIGHT

BALTIMORE, Md. - In the second meet of the outdoor season, Delaware State University senior Krystina Muhammad (Newark, Del.) continued to reign queen in the long jump and triple jump events as the Hornets took part in a rare mid-week event at the Coppin State Eagle Twilight Wednesday evening.

Muhammad, who finished Saturday's Golden Ram Invitational with two gold medals, took another two home with her first place finishes in the long and triple jump.  In the long jump, Muhammad tied a season-best distance of 5.52m.  She bested her mark in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.81m.

The DSU women bought home and additional four gold medals in the 100m hurdles, 400m dash, 4x100m relay and shot put.

Senior Tracey Fan Fan (Maplewood, N.J.) finished first in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 14.78 while fellow senior Ayanna Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.) was first in the 400m with in 56.74. 

In the 4x100m relay, the squad of sophomore Aatiqah Ali (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Vernetta Biggs (Accokeek, Md.), senior Kristen Johnson (Bloomfield, N.J.) and freshman Shalaya Sidney (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran a first-place time of 51.30 for the Hornets.

In the shot put, sophomore Maria Gwengi finished first with a season-best throw of 12.87m.

On the men's side, the Hornets recorded five gold medal performances in the 200m dash, 400m dash, 1500m run, 4x100m relay and triple jump.

Junior Ryan Carter (Wilmington, Del.) finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 21.63 and then led the 4x100m squad to a 41.42 first place performance.  Joining Carter in the relay were senior Tariq Devore (New York, N.Y.) and fellow juniors Edward Hurley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Tyquan Brown (Neptune, N.J.).

In the 400m dash, Del State swept the top four spots with senior Donte' Holmes (Hyattsville, Md.) leading the way with a time of 47.40.  Devore, Brown and junior Stephen Bowe followed with respective times of 47.66, 48.27 and 48.39.

Graduate student Kouri Falconer (Queens, N.Y.) ran a meet-best time of 4:15.31 in the 1500m.

Freshman Amir Armstrong (Sicklerville, N.J.) put up a team season-best mark of 14.39m in the triple jump for the event gold medal.

There was no team scoring at the event.

Delaware State travels to Raleigh, N.C. this weekend for the Raleigh Regionals, held on Friday and Saturday.
