RALEIGH, N.C. - Competing against
more than 2,000 athletes, 80 colleges and universities and several dozen track
clubs across the region, the Delaware State University outdoor track and field
posted seven top-10 finishes and the men's squad won the 4x400m relay this
weekend as a part of the Raleigh Regionals, one of the largest track and field
meets in the nation, at NC State's Derr Track.
In
the men's 4x400, the Hornets finished second overall out of 31 teams, but first
for collegiate squads, with a time of 3:07.54.
The GW Express Club team finished first in 3:05.35. Running for DSU in the relay were junior Tyquan Brown (Neptune, N.J.), senior Tariq Devore (New York, N.Y.), junior Ryan Carter (Wilmington, Del.) and
senior Donte' Holmes (Hyattsville,
Md.).
The
DSU 'B' squad of juniors Stephen Bowe, Kevaughn Laviea (Dover, Del.), Kelli Thibou (Greenbelt, Md.) and Edward Hurley (Virginia Beach, Va.)
placed 10th in the 4x400 with a time of 3:16.34.
The
Hornet men finished seventh in the 1600 sprint medley with a time of 3:29.17
with Hurley, freshman Alpha Mansaray
(Claymont, Del.), Thibou and graduate Kouri
Falconer (Queens, N.Y.).
The
4x100 relay squad of Carter, Devore, Hurley and Brown also finished seventh
with a time of 41.56.
Individually,
sophomore Jordan Wilson (Smyrna,
Del.) posted a distance of 14.20m in the triple jump, which was good for second
place overall.
Carter
finished sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 47.02.
On
the women's side, senior Tracey Fan Fan (Maplewood, N.J.) ran a time of
1:03.02, good for seventh.
The
4x400 relay of Fan Fan, sophomores Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Vernetta Biggs (Accokeek, Md.) and senior
Ayanna Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.) finished
10th overall with a time of 3:47.95.
There
was no team scoring at the event.
Delaware
State travels to Gainesville, Fla. next weekend for the Florida Relays, taking
place on Friday and Saturday.
