DES MOINES, Iowa - With just two races left in the outdoor track and field season, Delaware State University's Donte' Holmes (Hyattsville, Md.) finish his career on top as the senior will compete for gold at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held this Wednesday through Saturday at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University.

Holmes competes at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 800m semifinals on the Jim Duncan Track.  The field of 24 will fight for the eight coveted spots that will advance to Friday's final.  The semifinals will feature three heats where the top two advance plus the next best two times.  The final will be held at 6:10 p.m. on Friday.

Holmes recorded a season-best time of 1:48.33 in the NCAA East Region Preliminary, good for second in his heat and seventh overall.  He previously competed in the 2010 East Prelims in the 800m, but failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships.  Holmes posted a career-best time of 1:48.11 as a sophomore at the 2010 IC4A Championships.

This year marks the fourth time the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Des Moines (1970, 2008, 2011).  The stadium has a capacity of 14,557 and is home to Drake's football and men's and women's soccer teams, as well as the annual Drake Relays.
