Pre-Season Rankings: Class 3, 4, 5 Javelin

Class 4 Boys

8. Blake Weakley - Kearney, SR

PR - 152-7

7. Dillon Lancaster - Carthage, SR

PR - 154-8

6. Dylan Johnson - Kearney, SR

PR - 154-10

5. Gabriel Kurtz - Camdenton, JR

PR - 159-5

4. Nathan Swadley - Willard, SR

PR - 158-6

3. Anthony Hart - Ft. Zumwalt East, SR

PR - 164-5

Hart and our number two ranked athlete are virtually interchangeable here even though their personal bests have enough room in between them to argue against us. Nevertheless, both boys have only cleared 160-0 once and one of them did it at state while the other was unable to replicate his District 4 title throw. The latter was Hart. He breezed through district and sectional last year before coming up sixth, but should be a solid pick for a top three medal this season.

2. Briar Short - Webb City, SR

PR - 160-8

It's going to be tough to get out of Sectional 3 as four boys from it populate our rankings, but Short appears to be safely at the top among the boys in said Sectional. His only throw over 160-0 in his career got him second last season and though he sits third objectively based on personal bests, we give him the nod at second because of last year's state performance.

1. Isaiah Martin - Hillsboro, SR

PR - 169-7

What can't this guy do? The Purdue commit is a top talent in so many events, it is truly unfortunate that he can't compete in all of them. But javelin is one in which he has a state title with a mark five feet shorter than his personal best so we imagine he will go for it again this year. Martin could pick up top three points in four events and we don't see any reason it won't be a 10 in this one, except of course if Short and Hart can keep up with his inevitable rise.
