With the outdoor season right around the corner, we wanted to highlight some of the top athletes in the state of Delaware as some names to look out for this season, as when they hit the track (or field), it's guaranteed to be a great race/event.
Phoenix Henriquez (Smyrna High School) Sr. - 10.52 100m 21.87 200m
The now senior is a 100m/200m runner with great speed on the track, as Phoenix is coming off a 5th place finish in the 100m state final last year, and a 4th place finish this indoor season in the 200m.
Elijah Tackett (Dover High School) Sr. - 21.57 200m 48.28 400m
Tackett won the 400m state title last year and holds a pr of 48.28 from last year. He is the #1 returner in the 200m and #4 in the 400m.
Khalid Burton (Laurel High School) Sr.- 10.92 100m 21.74 200m 47.80 400m
Burton is the #1 returner in the 400m and the reigning 400m state champ, along with a 2nd place finish in the 200m.
Xzavier Yarborough (Dover High School) Jr. - 22.45 200m 47.87 200m
Yarborough is coming off a 3rd place finish this indoor season in the 400m dash.
Jayden Feaster (Middletown High School) Sr. - 22.08 200m 48.10 400m
Feaster is coming off his indoor season, where he just won the 400m state title and holds a pr of 48.24 indoors and 48.10 outdoors.
Jason Baker (Cape Henlopen High School) Sr. - 4:21.56 1600m 9:11.28 3200m 15:19 5k
Jason is coming off an insane junior year where he is the reigning 3200m state champ and will look to go under the 9-minute barrier this spring.
Alec Jurgaitis (St. Mark's High School) Sr. - 800m 1:53.85 1600m 4:17.21
The now senior is the #1 returner in the 800m this outdoor season and placed 4th at last year's state meet over the distance.
Micahlena Cotton (Smyrna High School) So. - 12.05 100m 24.93 200m 56.62 400m
Cotton is the top returner in the 100m and placed 2nd last year outdoors at states.
Nyah Ballard (Polytech High School) Sr. - 12.48 100m 24.58 200m
Ballard is the top returner in the 200m and 3rd at states last year over 200m
Anna Bockius (Padua Academy) Sr. 400m 56.48 800m 2:07.21 1600m 4:49.95
Bockius has a ton of state titles to her name and is looking like she will add a few more to her resume this spring.
