PIKE CREEK, Del. - The men's cross country team placed fifth of nine teams as it hosted the 10th annual Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic on a beautiful Fall evening at Carousel Park on Friday, Oct. 7.

Holy Family University was crowned the Team Champion with a score of 52. The Lightning finished with a team score of 100, while last year's team champion, USciences, took fourth with 86 points. Ocean County College slipped past the Devils for third place with a score of 84, and Bloomfield was second at 73.

Sophomore Stewart Reich was GBC's top-finisher as he improved 20 seconds from his time at this race last year to once again place 5th overall with a time of 28:54. Next in for the Lightning was sophomore Hugo Morales at 30:53 to place 21st overall. Two more GBC runners came in after Morales in a span of 41 seconds as freshman Dan Weyant crossed at 31:13 and junior David Zartler ran his best race all season to finish at 31:34. Weyant and Zartler were 24th and 26th, respectively, overall.

Senior Ben Kinley, who had two top-10 finishes in this race the past two seasons, suffered an ankle injury during the first mile of the race and had to perservere through the extremely challenging hills that make up the Carousel Park course to finish in 33:13. Normally the Lightning's No. 2 runner, Kinley was the fifth man in and took 43rd overall.

Sophomore Jabari Chambers was next for GBC at 34:34 and senior Demetris Harding finished in an all-out sprint, side-by-side with Baltimore City College's Gabriel Nieba to cross at 45:12.

Next week, the Lightning will compete in the University of Delaware Cross Country Meet at White Clay Creek State Park.
