A total of four state leading performances were produced at this past week's AAU Region II Championships at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware. Landstown's Marlena Wesh become the first girl in Virginia to break 24 seconds in the 200 meter dash with a 23.78 runner-up clocking as she was also second in the 100 meter dash for the intermediate girls with her first time under 12 seconds at 11.91. DeShana Briggs of Booker T. Washington and Chris Copeland of Lakeland (pictured right by John Herzog) both tied the state's best mark in the high jump with Briggs clearing 5'10" for the second time this summer, while Copeland matched AA state champion Tony Brown's previous lone position ontop of the state leaderboard at 6'10". Isiah Gyasi, ECU bound sprint star from I.C. Norcom, sprinted away to his second 10.54 clocking this summer in a young men division 100 meter dash win. Highlights posted for both USATF Region II and AAU Region II Championships. On Day Five, the final day of the IAAF World Youth Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Chanelle Price finished 6th in the finals of the 800 meters, running 2:06.55. She apparently fared better than the top seed, Winny Cherbet of Kenya, who was DQed. In the next to last event, the Sprint Medley (100-200-300-400), the U.S. won with Ryann Krais posting a split of 37.5 on the 300 leg.
