Delaware State Indoor Championships: Bottorff & Tatnall girls roll to another title Feb 16, 2009

Juliett Bottorff (pictured right by Tim Fulton of ArmoryTrack.com)and the Tatnall girls (113 points) continued their streak of dominance in the state of Delaware with Bottorff as the 1600 and 800 winner led her squad to the indoor state championship this past Saturday at the University of Delaware's indoor facility. Bottorff ran a state record time in the 800 meter run with her US #13 2:14.94 performance in the middle of the triple which included a win in the 1600 earlier and also running a leg on the first place 4x400 to close out the meet. While Bottorff ruled the distance races, Delcastle Tech junior Celina Emerson was just as a dominant force in the sprints with individual state titles in 55 meter dash (7.31) and 200 meter dash (25.87) as well as close runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash (58.44). Emerson's performances helped Delcastle Tech to a state runner-up finish in the team standings to Tatnall with 75 points. The Christiana boys rode their relays en route to a state team championship by sweeping the three relay races with first places finish from their 4x800 (8:16.19), 4x200 (1:32.42), and 4x400 (3:30.88) meter relays. Christiana was nearly double the points ahead of the state runner-up squad from Newark High (48 pts) with a final score of 93 points. Caravel Academy's Darwin Gibbons nearly vaulted himself into a US top 10 ranking with his state meet record clearance of 15'6", which currently ranks him #11 in the country. Malachi Freeman showed speed can come from anywhere including the small state title from Delaware with a solid double victory in the sprints by the Glaslow senior with a 6.42 clocking in the 55 meter dash and 22.58 performance in the 200 meter dash.
